Race Day!
May 27, 2007Today is race day in Indianapolis; the Indianapolis 500! I grew up near Indianapolis, enjoyed all of the hub-bub about the “greatest spectacle in racing” and I still get goose pimples when race day finally comes. I love watching those cars fly around the track.
Did you know that the 500 even has a quilt aspect to it? Jeanetta Holder has been making a quilt for the winner of the 500 every year for the last 30 years and she has one ready for the winner today. Check out the details here.
I went to the Indy 500 once. My dad was a racing fanatic and it was his lifelong dream to go. We drove all the way from Akron Ohio… I was 15 at the time. I guess he didn’t plan or make any reservations, because I remember sleeping in the car overnight and there was a wild and crazy party going on in the streets. We had no seats, but wandered around the infield. This didn’t bother me too much, but I have a hunch my mom was less than thrilled by the adventure.
