Vintage Valentine

July 28, 2008

Now that the show is over I can show you some close-ups of the quilts that I quilted for customers for the show.

Here is a beautiful appliqué quilt titled Vintage Valentine.

Rouye did such a beautiful job on her appliqué that she won a second place ribbon for it. Congratulations Rouye!!

Threads of our Past

July 27, 2008

Today was the last day of the New Braunfels Area Quilt Guild’s 2008 Quilt Show. The show was titled Threads of Our Past. We hold the show once every two years. And again this year I must say I am impressed with the quality of work that my guild turns out. We have a lot of very talented quilters. Am I just biased? I don’t think so.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Best of Show

Dear Jane by Janet Degan

2nd Place Appliquéd/ Machine Quilted

Vintage Valentine by Rouye Rush

1st Place Pieced/ Machine Quilted

Line Upon Line by Vicki Owen

Day Lily Delight by Sandra Towey

People’s Choice

The Great Pumpkin (oops! I didn’t get the name…)

Blue Beauty

July 25, 2008

Blue Beauty is a flash movie of photos of earth taken from Endeavor. They are beautiful! My favorites are the night shots.

I try to imagine what it would be like to be space walking up there like that and it seems it would almost be overwhelming. I guess it would be the opposite of claustrophobia; everything would be so big and far away. If given the chance, I’d probably try it though!

July 22, 2008

It must be the lazy days of summer as I’ve noticed that I am not posting nearly as often as I used to. I’m getting a lot of quilting done though.

Last week I quilted up a Kaleidoscope quilt for a customer. It was a lot of fun following the patterns on the fabric in the Kaleidoscopes. It made for some interesting patterns.

The empty spaces and the borders are filled with Wonky Feathers.

By the way, today I am another year older. None the wiser, but I am a better quilter; that’s all that matters!

Burgandy Irish Chain

Another quilt done. I’ll probably take this one over to Brooke Army Medical Center here in San Antonio.

It’s Almost Show Time

July 3, 2008

The New Braunfels Area Quilt Guild –my quilt guild– is having its biennial show later this month. I am so looking forward to it. I am signed up to be a White Glove Lady- my favorite job as I get to hang out at the show looking at all of the quilts, handling all of the quilts with my white gloves and chatting with the guests. What a great way to spend an afternoon.

In the meantime I am keeping busy working on quilts for the show. We have many talented quilters in the guild and I feel honored to be working on the quilts with them.

Cross Hatching

July 2, 2008

It is hot and dry here in San Antonio. So I don’t mind sitting inside in the AC working on this beauty. My customer hand appliquéd it and I am quilting the cross hatching in the background. I hope you enjoy the photos.
