Happy Mother’s Day, Moms!!

I finished up the Double Ax this week. I just love it!! I told my customer that if she didn’t want to pick it up it would have a very nice home here… fat chance!

I just quilted a simple two loops in each block and stitched horizontally between the rows. It was just enough quilting to hold it all together without interfering with the pattern and fabrics of the piecing. It made a really nice pattern on the back too.

And I love the undulating edge!! The bias binding was simpler than I expected.

Up on the quilting table this weekend is another save from the depths of the linen closet. This quilt was hand pieced during the 1940’s by my customer’s great grandmother. The design is called the Double Ax.

I love working with these old quilts although some of the fabrics can be a challenge as they are so thin.

One thing that I like to do which seems to help with that is to line the top with a bleached muslin. You can see here that I will layer the backing, the batting, the bleached muslin and then the top on the table. The muslin adds a little stability behind those thin fabrics and also brightens the whites.

I haven’t decided what to quilt on this one yet. Any suggestions?

My oldest son is 17 years old today! Another son that makes me proud!

Happy Birthday David!!

I don’t have as much time to comment on all of the blogs that I read lately. So it may seem that I’m not reading them. I am, as much as possible. And I want to thank all of you for sharing your lives and your sewing and your families with me. No matter how harried I’m feeling, how tense or distracted I am… when I see that Google Reader list show up on my computer screen my heart beat slows, my muscles relax and a smile spreads across my face just knowing I’m about to spend time with some really great friends.

THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!

Hey, Debra and Rian, how about if I just cut the bottom half off and call it done?!!

LOL! Just kidding!!

It is my son’s birthday today. I remember that day 15 years ago very well. I am happy to report that he turned out to be worth every minute of it.

Happy Birthday Michael!!

This week I am working on a quilt for Habitat for Humanity. My guild presents a quilt with every house that is built here. The quilt is a colorful 9-Patch with unbleached muslin sashing. I’m quilting a simple panto with roses and ribbons on it. It is sure to turn the new house into a home!

You may have seen these photos before on Debra’s and Rian’s blogs.

They sent these parts and other pieces to me and I am putting them all together and quilting them up. (I shamelessly lifted the photos from their sites… Hi Debra! Hi Rian!) We have high hopes of getting this quilt into IQF this fall. Apparently there are some rules about showing the quilt before the show so I can only show you a peek. But here is a small peek.

I’d better get to the quilting table and get busy!!
