Dance Costumes

October 11, 2010

A customer has asked me to design a quilt using her daughter’s dance costumes from 15 years of dance lessons. I have on the design wall a small sampling of the variety of costumes in the collection.

Initially, I have decided to work with blocks using 4” multiples; for example, 4”x 4”, 4”x 8”, 8”x 12” and so forth. I made up some poster board frames so that I see what sizes work with the different costumes.

Fleshing out all of the blocks to a 12” x 12” size with black fabric gives me something like this, with a final size of 50” by 62”.

The black seems to work with the variety of fabrics and pulls them all together.

  1. It’s really going to be fantastic!

  2. Very modern!
