Unity Quilt

December 8, 2007

While surfing the web tonight I came across this wonderful quilt and web site.

Each block in the quilt describes a process for resolving conflict between families. Click on the quilt to be taken to a page where you can read about the story behind each block.

The website is for Amani Ya Juu, a counseling center in Nairobi, Kenya. The center helps African women overcome the effects of poverty, war and disease. The women at the center learn to sew beautiful products such as bags, hot pads, place mats and sew forth, to be sold in a shop in Nairobi and over the internet. Click on A Day at Armani to read about the shop, the workroom and some of the women at the center. There is also a button to take you to Shop Armani so that you can see the great bags they are making.

Thanks for showing this quilt and giving the link-it’s so interesting. What a great piece of history.
